It’s important to set aside a little time every day to take care of yourself and do things that make you smile inside.
3 actions that I do daily to make my soul happy:
- Fit moves or working out- any sort of fun movement that can be added into your day. I like to go to the gym or dojo ( cardiokickbox) , go for walks/runs or use my elliptical in the house. It helps me to have a few minutes to focus on myself and how I feel or want to feel at that moment. It allows me a few minutes when I’m not someone’s mom or friend, or daughter or wife but just Alisha… priceless moments J
- Listen to music (hip hop, rap, reggae, salsa, gospel, jazz, classical, funk, pop, country, and the list goes on and on) whatever genre you choose to make you smile or make you breathe easy or makes you want to laugh and dance. I personally love to listen to soca (Caribbean type of music with steel pans, lots of percussions and upbeat tempo). This music makes me feel instantaneously happy. Makes me wanna dance. Know your happy music and have it ready to listen to in your car, at work or at home. Music can be chicken soup for a stressful moment or day
- Journal or write down affirmations, words or thoughts that makes you smile on the inside and out. Writing is very therapeutic. I love to write down things or experiences that make me happy. It can help change my mood from sad to happy or sometimes make me feel nostalgic. I like to write a few minutes in the morning as soon as I wake up. Or in the night if my morning is hectic.
The time that you set aside can range from 15 minutes to an hour, whatever time you give yourself, try your best to stick to it. The time I set aside for me is important to me being there for myself and everyone else.
