The activities listed below are activities that we are planning to be done. They will include seminars, workshops, support groups, group activities, walks and/or fitness activities. These activities will be done by related areas professionals and licensed consultants. Some will be done by Board of Directors and committee members that are within their expertise areas. These activities are expected to be planned and conducted, at least one activity at least once monthly or bi-monthly. These activities will be done within the New York City area. Some will be done in a fitness facility, parks or other community areas.
The purpose of each activity is to provide support and/or fitness for family members and/or fitness for family members and individuals with autism, ADHD and or related sensory impairments. These planned activities will continue to focus on our objective of providing these family members with information and a comfortable environment that they can learn about being healthier individuals. It is expected to take approximately 1-2 hours of weekly planning prior to the event. Also the preparation, actual program time and clean- up process can be approximately about 4-6 hours, on the actual day for each planned activity. The actual percentage of time spent on the planned activities will be about 8-14 hours each month. These activities will be funded by money collected through membership dues, fund raising activities (like bake sales, t- shirt sales, etc.), and monetary contributions from non-members. It is expected that the professionals that will be providing the information to our families, will be volunteering their time and expertise.
The projected activities expected through the year for SmartFitFam are as explained briefly below.
Children Yoga and stress Relieving Activities
This workshop will be done by certified yoga instructors to teach the parent yoga and Stress reducing techniques to do, by themselves and with their child.
Exercises to do Parent/Child Fitness Activities
This workshop will be done by certified personal trainers, martial arts instructors, physical education teachers and/or certified physical therapists to teach parents varied physical activities to do alone, for person wellness and with their child(ren) for bonding and to have a healthier lifestyle.
Nutrition and Healthier Eating: Family Workshop
This workshop will be done by a nutritionist and/or dietician. The purpose of this workshop is to focus on healthier eating choices, learn creative use of makings vegetables, fruits and healthier but time efficient snack and meals options.
Understanding the Educational IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and Adaptive Physical Education (PE)
This workshop will be done by Adaptive PE teachers and/or Physical therapist to discuss options relating to school physical activities. This information will be helpful to the parents about physical activities, how is the child to be active in school and placement of on their IE.P.
Sensory regulation and Hands on techniques (calming strategies) will be done by licensed Occupational Therapist and Massage Therapists. The purpose of this workshop will be helping the parents to learn strategies to help to deal with stressful factors in life and to learn techniques to help with their child and sensory needs.
Financial Wellness in the Family and Management:
This purpose of this workshop is to discuss to the families the value of money and managing children’s activities will help to inform families about teaching children about savings and how to save money to include affordable nutrition choices and fitness lifestyles. This will be done by an accountant, MBA or bank representative.
Creating time for “You”
This parent workshop will be done by a certified guidance counselor and/or social worker. It will focus on creating time out for parents and for children separately, to allow for stress relief and overall wellness. Positive affirmations and mantras will be discussed and practiced.
Sibling/ Peer Play with Social Fitness Skills
This workshop will be done by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist, Social Worker, Guidance Counselor to enhance play skills and communication skills through play and fitness. The purpose of this workshop will be to provide information and hands on techniques for the children to use fitness and exercises to bond with peers and siblings.
Wellness and Mothers Beauty Time
Pampering Workshop, given by makeup artists, massage therapist and hair stylists to show mothers how to take care of themselves so that they can care for their children. Families learn the benefits of taking care of their outsides, body and image.
Father/Child fitness and Bonding time.
The purpose of this workshop will be to provide exercises for fathers to do with their child through sports and play. This workshop will be instructed by martial arts instructors and certified personal trainers.
Family Walks or walk-a-thons to foster family activities and exercise for fund raising and for fitness.
These walks will be planned by and led by the Board of Directors and all active members that are interested.
